Crazy, by Han Nolan is about
a boy named Jason who lives with his very mentally ill father but her manages
to live an okay life. One way he deals with living alone with his dad are the
voices in his head that talk to him, give him advice, and keep his hopes up.
You would think that having voices in your head that talk to you is a bad thing
but for Jason they are more helpful friends than evil demons. Another way he
manages is his group of friends at school who he met during group therapy. The
last way he copes is that he just keeps going. No matter what happens he moves
on with his life and really tries to do the best for him and his dad.
The voices in his not only help him
deal with his dad, they play a very important role in the story. There are four
main voices he pays the most attention to, Fat bald guy with a mustache aka
FBG, Sexy Lady, Aunt Bee, and Crazy Glue. All of them have specific
personalities. For example, “There’s also Sexy Lady, who supposed to just tell
me I’m hot all the time.” Not only does Sexy Lady call him hot all the time she
also gives nice advice and can also be sympathetic. My favorite of all the
voices is Crazy Glue because he’s the most like Jason and he’s so sarcastic and
is always making theses jokes that always cheer up Jason when he’s crying. Aunt
Bee is also very sympathetic and she’s probably the nicest of them all and
she’s always there to help Jason. With out the voices in Jason’s head he
probably would have gone just as crazy as his dad.
Along with the voices he has his
friends who help him through his tough times. One example of when they help him
is when is dad is just being very difficult and he just needs a break, “I
smile, happy to let Pete deal with dad for a minute.” Jason’s friends are also people
with a lot in their life. Their names are, Pete, Haze, and Shelby. Shelby’s mom
is really sick so she finds support in the group for that, Pete’s dad is a drug
addict and he and his family are trying to get him to stop, and Haze’s parents
are divorced and they still fight a lot. Jason feels like he did something good
when he helps them and when he’s with his friends he can just have fun and
chill, “He withdraws his head from the room and closes the door. We all look at
one another and burst out laughing.” At this point Jason had just totally
freaked out and wreaked the guidance office and they just laugh it off and help
him clean it all up. When Jason is with his friends he has a chance to let
everything out and really have fun.
As well as Jason getting support and
strength from his friends and voices he is able to find strength in him self.
“’I’m okay,’ I say. I sit up and feel a sharp pain in my shoulder- it kills,
but I ignore it.” Jason’s dad had just pushed him down the stairs and he landed
on his elbow really weird. He is with his friends so he doesn’t want them to
think his dad is crazy so he pretends that it was his fault and he just
happened to fall down the stairs. Another example of when he was strong was
when his dad was really sick and he gave up all he had fought for and called
for help, “’Dad, I’m going to get help, okay? We need help. I’m letting go, but
not for good. You’re not dying. You’re not going to die on me. Okay?’” I think
this part took a lot of inner strength and Jason did the best for his dad.
To conclude, Jason is a very strong
person who has a lot to deal with in his life and he takes it. He has his
friends, his strength, and his voices to help him through and as long as he has
those things he’s gonna be okay.

hotter.
